How much does it cost to tour Batanes?

It costs as low as ₱ 2,250 per person to as high as ₱ 16,755 per person.  These prices are as of December 2023.

The reason for the price range is due to a number of reasons:

  1. Number of people in the group.  If you are a solo traveler then the entire cost of tour is on you, but if say for example you are 10 in your group, then the cost of the van rental is shared among the group.
  2. Sabtang Island visit.  For example, to visit Sabtang Island it will cost an additional ₱ 505 /person (faluwa /boat) ticket and a separate environmental fee of ₱ 200/person (on top of the Batanes Provincial Eco and PAMB fee totaling ₱ 400) plus terminal fee.  (Tip: Sabtang is fine but if weather does not permit travel by sea to Sabtang (which sometimes happen) and you want to visit vernacular Ivatan houses, you can find those in the South of Batan Island at the town of Uyugan and its barrios Itbud and Imnajbu).
  3. Mahatao town also has a separate charge of ₱ 50.  There are also other places in Mahatao where they charge extra fee to enter – for example in Diura and the Rakuh-a-Idi.
  4. Number of days of your tour.  Of course, a 2-day tour is cheaper than a 3-day tour.
  5. Lunch.  If you want lunch to be included then the price is higher of course.  Lunch typically costs ₱ 350 ~ 400 per person.  It usually includes Ivatan food (rice, vegetables, fish, pork or beef dishes).  You can exclude lunch if you want to bring your own food or if you have dietary preferences.
  6. Airport transfer.  If your accommodation provides airport transfer, you may exclude this service.  It will save you from paying more than necessary.

Going back to our example price above of ₱ 2,250/person, that is a 2-day tour of Batan Island for a group of 10 persons.  It includes lunch in day 2, vehicle, driver, tour guide, and government mandated fees.  On the high side, the ₱ 16,755 example is for a solo traveler on a 3-day exclusive tour of Batan and Sabtang with transportation (boat and van), driver, tour guide, lunch on day 2 and 3, and all government fees included.
